Living Abroad: Cristina Travels the World with Her Husband

I'm here with another interview and I'm sure you're gonna like this one as much as you liked the previous one. This time Cristina is going to show you how to travel the world with your loved one, how to live life abroad!
ČEŠTINA NÍŽE...

Hi Cristina! I know you've spent quite some time living abroad. You come from Romania and the first place you moved to was France. I know that one of the reasons why you moved there was love. What were the other ones? Would you say that it helped you that you already knew someone who lived there?

I knew just my beloved future husband :-) and another reason was that I thought I would have a better future if studying abroad.

How did you feel before moving abroad for the first time? What was the hardest? Could you speak French?

I have dreamt for a longtime going abroad, especially that my country was during the communist era...until 1989. I was speaking French but not very well. The hardest thing was to understand the French education system and to adapt myself to it ;-). Also it was quite hard that nobody helped us...

You then moved to Germany and Brussels to spend there almost 2 years in total. How was that?

We both moved in Germany because Olivier had to do its military service (as a civil). When he finished it, I found a job in Brussels so we moved together there. Olivier found a job too a little later.

After this you both lived in Romania for 15 years. That's where you, Cristina, were born but Olivier was a foreigner there. Has he visited that country with you before or how did he prepare for living there? What differences did you see between living in France and Romania?

 Yes Olivier had visited Romania with me several times before. In Romania of that time, the living level was quite different from France. A lot of things to build (infrastructura, no supermarkets, etc...) and the mentality was also very different.

Cristina, was it hard to come back to Romania after living abroad for several years? Were there things that you saw differently about living in Romania after experiencing life in France, Germany and Belgium?

It was a little bit difficult because things were evoluating quite slowly in Romania... But there were a lot of things to do there and that's why we built the first adventure park in Romania ;-).

During those 15 years you lived for a short period in Iran and Brazil. These are two totally different countries (different also compared to the countries you've already lived in!), what made you spend longer time there? Did you speak local languages?

In Iran we have lived for less than an year because Olivier was working for the French Foreigner Affairs Ministry. But it was too hard to live for a family with a small child (our son was less than 2 years old) and the war had begun in Irak too... We didn't speak the local language but have learnt some words in order to manage express ourselves.
I had a great experience in Brazil and I have learnt to speak Portuguese because I love this language. I dont't speak very well but understand everything. I would love to live again in this country.

The culture in those countries is different from the European ones. What was the biggest surprise for you after you moved to both of them? Is there some aspect of living, something that you really liked that you'd like to see here in Europe as well?
For Iran the biggest surprise was the lack of respect of the Iranian people for their monuments and historical heritage. In Brazil the biggest surprise was the smiles seen in the street and the special atmposphere of the carnival.

It might sound like a lot of places you've lived in to the readers but we're not quite done yet. You also spent 3 years in Martinique! Even tho it is the French territory, I guess life over there must be pretty different. But were there any similarities with life in France? I suppose that the fact that you know the language made it a bit easier for you, am I right?
Indeed life in Martinique is different : wonderful beaches, great temperature all year long, sun almost all the time, a lot of flowers, luxuriant nature. It was easy to live, but life is not so easy there... As a tourist, it's great, but living there was quite difficult for us.

After Martinique you came back to France where you live now. Kind of "back to where we started" I'd say :) How does it feel to be back? You've both gone through living abroad so it cannot be the same like the first time :)
It is good to be back in Europe but unfortunatelly France is not an easy country to find a job... The jobs' market is quite special...

I'm pretty sure you've made friends literally all over the world during these years. Is it hard to stay in touch with them? And what about your families, did they support your decision to move around the world?
We have indeed kept in touch with our friends all over the world. Our families did not support or approve our decisions too much unfortunately... but that's life. Being happy and travelling in order to discover other people, countries, cultures have a price...

Is it even possible to call one place your home? Or is there at least place in the world that you could say you like the most?
No for the moment, we have no home or better said, our home is the world :-) We have liked a lot of places... and I am sure that there are still a lot to discover :-)

Do you plan to move somewhere else again or do you think you'll stay in France (at least for now :))?
Of course we are going to move - first, there where we will find jobs and then, after our son will have his own life, we are going to become nomads :-)

 Is there something you'd like to say that you feel like our readers should know and I didn't ask about it? :) And would you, please, give any advice to anyone who would like to move abroad? :)
My advice would be : live your dreams and if travel or going abroad is one of them, do not hesitate!!! In fact I have even written a book ( a free one!) that will be soon publish in English too about this subject :-) For the moment you can discover our Travel eGuides and other collections HERE

Jsem tu s dalším rozhovorem v zahraničí a věřím, že se vám tento bude líbit tak, jako ten první. Cristina nám v rozhovoru přiblíží, jaké to je žít dlouhodobě v zahraničí se svým partnerem :)

Ahoj Cristino! Vím, že jsi už strávila hodně času v zahraničí. Pocházíš z Rumunska a první místo, kam jsi odešla, byla Francie. Vím také, že jedním z důvodů, byla láska. Jaké byly ty další důvody? Řekla bys, že ti pomohlo, že už jsi ve Francii někoho znala?

Znala jsem mého milovaného manžela :-) a další důvod byl, že jsem si myslela, že bych díky studiu v zahraničí měla lepší budoucnost. 

Jak ses cítila, než ses poprvé odstěhovala do zahraničí? Co bylo nejtěžší? Mluvila jsi francouzky? 

O tom, že se odstěhuji do zahraničí, jsem snila dlouho, zejména proto, že byl v Rumunsku komunismus... do roku 1989. Francouzsky jsem moc dobře neuměla. Nejtěžší bylo pochopit francouzský vzdělávací systém a přizpůsobit se mu ;-). Také bylo hodně náročné, že nám nikdo nepomohl... 

Potom ses přestěhovala do Německa a později do Bruselu, kde jsi dohromady strávila 2 roky. Jaké to bylo?

Oba jsme se přestěhovali do Německa, protože tam měl Olivier vojenskou službu (civilní). Když ji dokončil, našla jsem si práci v Bruselu, a tak jsme se přestěhovali tam. Olivier si tam práci našel taky, jen trochu později. 

Dalších 15 let jste spolu žili v Rumunsku. Tam ses, Cristino, narodila, ale Olivier tam byl cizincem. Byl s tebou někdy v Rumunsku, nebo jak se na život právě tam připravoval? Viděla jsi rozdíly mezi životem ve Francii a Rumunsku?
Ano, Olivier se mnou Rumunsko předtím, než jsme se tam přestěhovali, navštívil několikrát. Tehdy byl život v Rumunsku úplně někde jinde oproti Francii. Bylo potřeba vybudovat mnoho věcí (infrastrukturu, nebyly tam žádné supermarkety apod.,) a mentalita tam byla taky úplně jiná.

Cristino, bylo pro tebe těžké vrátit se do Rumunska potom, co jsi žila několik let v cizině? Byly tam některé věci, na které jsi nahlížela jinak, potom co jsi zažila život ve Francii, Belgii a Německu?
Bylo to trochu těžké, protože se věci v Rumunsku vyvíjely docela pomalu... Ale bylo tam co dělat a proto jsme také vybudovali první zábavní park v Rumunsku ;-).

V průběhu oněch 15 let jsi ale také krátce žila v Íránu a Brazílii. To jsou dvě naprosto odlišné země (jak mezi sebou, tak se liší od zemí, ve kterých jsi předtím žila!), proč jste tam zůstali? Uměli jste místní jazyky?
V Íránu jsme žili necelý rok, protože tam Olivier pracoval pro francouzské Ministerstvo zahraničních věcí. Bylo ale příliš obtížné žít tam s malým dítětem (našemu synovi byly teprve 2 roky) a v Iráku navíc začala válka... Místním jazykem jsme nemluvili, ale naučili jsme se pár slov, abychom se dokázali nějak vyjádřit.
S Brazílii mám skvělou zkušenost a naučila jsem se mluvit portugalsky, protože se mi ten jazyk opravdu líbí. Nemluvím sice moc dobře, ale rozumím všemu. Ráda bych v téhle zemi znovu žila.

Kultura je v těchto zemích hodně odlišná od té evropské. Co vás tam nejvíc překvapilo? Líbil se vám nějaký aspekt života, něco co byste třeba rádi přenesli i do toho evropského způsobu žití?
V Íránu nás nejvíc překvapil nedostatek úcty Íránců k jejich památkám a historickému děditství. V Brazílii mne nejvíc překvapily úsměvy, které jsem vídala na ulicích, a speciální atmosféra tamního karnevalu.

Možná si čtenáři myslí, že jste žili v mnoha zemích, ale to ještě nejsme u konce. Taky jste strávili 3 roky na ostrově Martinique. I když se jedná o francouzské území, předpokládám, že život tam je úplně jiný. Ale bylo tam naopak něco, co by se podobalo životu ve Francii? Asi vám pomohlo, že jste uměli jazyk, nebo ne?
Ano, život na Martinique je opravdu rozdílný : překrásné pláže, teplo po celý rok, sluníčko svítí skoro pořád, všude je mnoho květin, nádherná příroda. Bylo snadné tam žít, ale život sám tam zas tak jednoduchý nebyl... Pro turisty je to tam skvělé, ale pro nás tam život nebyl lehký.

Z Martinique jste se vrátili do Francie, kde nyní žijete. Řekla bych "zpátky tam, kde jsme začali" :) Jaké to vlastně je být zpátky? Oba jste si zkusili, jaké to je žít v cizině, takže to nemůže být stejné, jako dřív :)
Je hezké být zase zpátky v Evropě, ale ve Francii bohužel není snadné najít práci... Ten trh práce je tu docela výjimečný...

Jsem si téměř jistá, že jste si za ty roky v cizině našli mnoho přátel doslova po celém světě. Je těžké s nimi zůstat v kontaktu? A co vaše rodiny, podporovaly vás v tom, že se stěhujete po celém světě?
Ano, zůstali jsme v kontaktu s našimi přáteli z celého světa. Rodiny nás ale bohužel nepodpořily a naše rozhodnutí neschvalovaly... ale takový je život. To, že jsme šťastní, cestujeme abychom potkali nové lidi, poznali nové země, kultury, to všechno má nějakou cenu...

Je vůbec možné, abyste nějaké místo nazývali svým domovem? Máte alespoň nějaké místo, které se vám líbilo nejvíc? 
Ne, momentálně domov nemáme. Nebo, lépe řečeno, našim domovem je celý svět :-) Líbilo se nám na hodně místech... a jsem si jistá, že jich ještě hodně můžeme poznat :-)

Plánujete se znovu přestěhovat, nebo zůstanete ve Francii (alespoň pro tuto chvíli :))?
Samozřejmě se znovu přestěhujeme - nejdřív si ve Francii najdeme práci a až bude náš syn dospělý a bude mít svůj vlastní život, staneme se nomády :-)

Je něco, co bys chtěla mým čtenářům říct, a já jsem se na to nezeptala? :) A mohla bys, prosím, dát nějakou radu těm, kteří by se rádi přestěhovali do zahraničí? :)
Moje rada zní: žijte své sny a pokud k nim cestování nebo přestěhování se do zahraničí patří, na nic nečekejte!!! Dokonce jsem o tom napsala i knihu (která nic nestojí!), a ta brzo vyjde i v angličtině :-) Zatím si můžete projít naše Online průvodce cestováním a další sbírky na tomto odkazu.
